Russia’s War and Lemkin’s Warnings

In his column for Euromaidan Press, Vitalii Tytych reflects on how Raphael Lemkin, the author of the term “genocide,” foresaw Russia’s crimes against Ukraine decades ago. Tytych stresses that Russia’s deliberate destruction of Ukrainian culture and identity is proof of genocidal intent, and warns that any attempts to appease the aggressor will only embolden further atrocities. Drawing on both his legal expertise and military service, he argues that Ukraine’s survival depends on global recognition of Russia’s war as genocide and on rejecting concessions that would only pave the way for future invasions.
