In October 2025, the Raphael Lemkin Society, together with the Сultural institution MizhVukhamy, organized a workshop and networking event for representatives of cultural and museum institutions from across Ukraine.
The gathering aimed to align efforts, discuss the role of culture during wartime, explore the challenges institutions currently face, and exchange experiences and future plans.
Among the participants were the Ukrainian Heritage Monitoring Lab (HeMo), the Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko National Museum of Arts, the Kharkiv Literary Museum, the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Center, and NGO “Platform of Urban Development”.
Despite ongoing shelling, destruction, and the loss of resources, Ukrainian cultural institutions continue their vital work, preserving collections, digitizing archives, delivering educational programs, and supporting their communities. At a time when culture itself has become a target of Russian aggression, its protection is integral to safeguarding the nation’s security, identity, and future.
We express our profound appreciation to our colleagues for their unwavering commitment and resilience in protecting Ukraine’s cultural heritage during these challenging times and for ensuring that it endures for generations to come.
We are especially grateful to our partners at the Penn Cultural Heritage Center for their support in making this workshop possible.
