The Raphael Lemkin Society and the Coalition of Culture Actors to Host a Panel Discussion at LMF 2026 on Attacks on Culture as a Tool of Genocide
The Raphael Lemkin Society, with the support of the European Endowment for Democracy (EED), and the Coalition of Culture Actors will host a panel discussion, “Culture as a Target and Tool of Genocide: How Media Can Catch the Moment,” during Lviv Media Forum 2026. The event is organized with support from INDEX: Institute for Documentation and Exchange and the Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine (PFRU).
The panel will take place on Friday, May 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. as part of the Frankly Spoken track, which focuses on the challenges facing media and democracy in a global context. It will also be livestreamed on the Lviv Media Forum Facebook page.
The panel will bring together experts in cultural heritage, international law, and accountability to examine how attacks on culture function within genocidal violence and how journalists and media professionals can document these processes.

Panel participants:
- Fiona Greenland — cultural heritage scholar, director of the Cultural Resilience Informatics and Analysis Lab, and associate professor at the University of Virginia.
- Alex Prezanti — legal advisor on investigations and case building at the Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine, with expertise in international criminal law and human rights.
- Daryna Pidhorna — lawyer and analyst at the Raphael Lemkin Society with expertise in international humanitarian and criminal law, whose work focuses on the protection of cultural heritage during war.
Moderator:
- Tetiana Pushnova — journalist, editor, producer, and communication specialist for cultural projects.
In 2026, LMF will take place from May 14–16. The conference’s central theme is “Reality Under Attack: Flight, Freeze, or Fight?”. The event will bring together Ukrainian and international media professionals working in global contexts, along with public intellectuals, researchers, politicians, civil society representatives, and representatives of international organizations.
